Basis of Design Critical analysis of a project’s viability prior to the start of detailed design includes projected cost models, schedule, phasing alternatives, code analysis, constructability, and impact on critical functions. Programming Preparation of detailed facility space requirements is based on management and user interviews, projected employee head count, and future R&D initiatives or anticipated production output. Laboratory Planning Program requirements and operational input from the lab users are integrated in a detailed CAD representation of all laboratory spaces, including casework, equipment, and utilities. Project Management Management of the design and construction support process is crucial to the success of a project. This process includes frequent communication with the owner’s representative and other design team members. The project manager takes a leadership role in facilitating project meetings and in issuing meeting memoranda, schedule updates, and progress reports.
