Novartis’s expansion into the development of oncology drugs forced the need to create a containment suite of laboratories to house analytical and formulation functions for cytotoxic compounds. Because the work involves the manipulation of large quantities of these materials, all work takes place in dedicated isolators or within ventilated enclosures.
In addition to formulation and analytical laboratories, the suite contains a stability lab, a weigh / dispense room and office space for the lab users. To insure containment, all labs are 100% exhausted, under negative pressure and are separated by air locks.
